What to look for when buying a used car


You have set your budget and you are ready to buy a used car. Buying a used is a great way to save on a car compared to the price of a new vehicle. but sometimes pre-owned vehicles can have a questionable history.a


So here's a checklist of what to look when inspecting a used car from a seller or dealer

1.Vehicle history

It can a bit difficult to get a vehicle history in the UAE and Dubai but there is a way for you to know more about the vehicle. just run a search using the vehicles VIN (vehicle identification number) on some of the paid online services and they get all the information regarding specs and sometimes whether or not the vehicle was in an accident.

2. Rust or paint damage

Have a walk around the car an keep a lookout for rust or paint chips, small chips, and rust can be fixed. but if there are major rust and degradation you might have to look for another vehicle. also have a check on the car paint if it has been re-sprayed. sometimes you can see color differences or inconsistent shimmering on the paint, indicating a re-spray.

3. Frame issues

Check the frame for signs of accident or broken bolt or a warped bumper. sometimes in a major accident, the chassis can bend enough to he point it noticeable. so keep a lookout for these things.

4. Under the hood

The engine is the heart of a vehicle, with the car turned off open up the hood and visually inspect the compartment for fluid leaks, corrosion, cracked hoses, and belts. also, check the oil and transmission for discoloration.

5. Tire condition

Old, worn, and cracked tires affect the drivability of a vehicle. check for cracks or uneven wear on the tires. extra wear on one side would indicate poor alignment which can affect steering and cause vibration.

6. Mileage

On average a car will do 20,000 km each year. a long haul vehicle will accumulate mileage much faster and show signs of wear sooner.

7. Interior electronics

Hop inside the car and check all the buttons and switches are working inside the car, Turn the air conditioner and heater as well to check for proper operation.

8. Upholstery

Seats and interior fabric can take a beating in a vehicle. check for tears, stains, and cracked leather on all the front and back seats. upholstery repairs can be a costly

9. Test drive

The test drive is the most important part of shopping for a pre-owned car. get in the driver seat and test its maneuverability, acceleration, braking, and suspension. Take it on the highway, if possible, and try parallel parking to get a feel for any blind spots the car might have.

10. Mechanic inspection

After you found the used car of your dreams you should take it to a trusted mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection. A mechanic can determine if the vehicle has any underlying issues or areas that might become an issue in the future. it could save you from buying a bad fish.
