Use Better Shampoo
Auto shampoos come many different types some even offer a bit of post-wash protection. Some inflict damage by removing all-important protection and wax. So if you care about car paint, buy for it a nice shampoo that is PH balanced and has a bit of wax in it.
Clean one section a time

After replacing the chamois with the microfiber towel, you can do less damage by also patting dry your car instead of rubbing. that avoids accidenlty rubbing any hard particles on your paint.

The only way to get rid of swirls to polish them out of the paintwork, this can be done by hand or by machine (which is faster), and then the paint has to be waxed or sealed.
